Steve Sharp

Welcome to my website.

Sharp Spirit.

Raising the spirit of vitality through Movement, Meditation, Massage.

Cultivating harmony in Mind, Body and Spirit.

All in One, One in All.

Movement, Meditation, and Massage form the core skills I have developed with over thirty years of practice, teaching, and therapy.

"All in One and One in All" relate to the fact in my experience that each one of these skills are interconnected…for example…

During movement we can have a mind that is still, calm, and alert (qualities of meditation), and the body is massaged externally through contact with the floor and internally by the movement of breath. During meditation physical sensation is constantly moving and also in the early stages at least so is the mind. The body is also internally massaged by the breath. Massage of course involves movement and the mind is concentrated and ideally has the qualities of meditation too.

Movement (Yoga and the Martial Arts).

I have been practicing yoga since the age of seventeen and qualified as an Iyengar Yoga teacher in 1985. I have continued a daily practice and development ever since.

Over this period I have been influenced by teachers from the Desikachar, Ashtanga, and Bihar schools of Yoga. I have also been profoundly influenced by Kum Nye (Tibetan healing exercises). Other major influences include my experience in Pilates and the Feldenkrais method.

My first exposure to Martial Arts was at school where I practiced Judo.
In my adult years I started to practice Yang style Tai Chi Chuan and BaguaZhang in the mid eighties and Aikido in the mid nineties of which I also practiced along with Kendo in Japan for ten years.

In Japan Aikido and Kendo are known as a Way or Path in that they are a way or path of cultivation of spirit through a life long commitment to one’s chosen discipline. My experience in Japan has informed the way I approach the practice and teaching of these Arts.

Meditation.

I first experienced meditation through my yoga and martial arts practice but later starting in the U.K and continuing in Japan I practiced Vipassana and Zen meditation. I have also through yoga and martial arts been exposed to Daoist and Tibetan forms of meditation. I have maintained a regular practice of meditation. For over twenty years I attended many intensive meditation retreats.  My meditation practice is fully embodied into my every day life and work.

Massage.

I was exposed to the Art of Massage through yoga and the martial arts.
I became a fully qualified Massage therapist in 1984. I have continued to build on my skills to include remedial massage with the Northern Institute, Sports Massage with the London School of Sports Massage and Thai yoga massage in Thailand.

I also qualified as a McTimoney Chiropractor in 1998 and completed a diploma as a Bodymaster Therapist with John Gibbons (Osteopath) in 2015.

I now practice as a therapist specialising in soft tissue, relaxtion, remedial, and sports massage.  I have also developed Aikitaiatsu (Asian fusion massage) which is traditionally practiced on the floor on a futon.

Movement, massage and meditation offer a great combination for general health specific fitness and the means to cultivate harmony in mind and body.

I take individuals couples and small groups and encourage them to take the first step on a chosen Way or Path that leads to a life lived in Harmony with a spirit full of vitality.
